[It's not meant to be an insult when Angela ends up admitting that she's knocking on Derek's door because she has no one else to bother. It's just that he's the only person she's managed to have a more than decent connection with so far, even if that connection meant rolling around in her bed for a few times. There isn't anybody else she knows well enough in this town just yet and even fewer people whose addresses she knows.
Besides, there's no way she can finish this entire gallon chocolate peanut butter pretzel ice cream before it melts due to the blackout. She needs help with this and who better than a man with a six pack that can hold up better to it than her hips? No one, that's who, so she hopes Derek is at home or her jeans are screwed.]
[ To say that Derek was pissed at the power going off was something of an understatement. He was almost at the Super Bowl level on the latest Madden, with an 11 game winning streak that started the night before. Clooney even picked his head up as the tv went black suddenly. It seemed to be a sign for Morgan to take his ass to bed. He slept through the Mayor's message and woke up not to find any power on yet didn't think the worst.
He headed out to do his usual work out, certain the power would be back sooner or later only to return a little more than two hours with it still gone. Derek had just finished taking a cold shower and getting dressed in more than his usual pair of shorts (added on t-shirt and socks) when there was knocking on his door. Clooney barked once then waited on the hand that fed him to open the door. ]
Hey, Gorgeous. Aren't you a sight for sore eyes.
[ His smile widened and he stepped back with a glance to Clooney, giving a quick german word for stay while the door opened further. The dog cocked his head as if to ask his owner if he was serious yet didn't leave the spot other than his butt about to rise from the ground from the stub wagging excitedly. ]
[The barking throws her off guard, certainly not expecting to hear that sound coming from the other side of the door. Her furrowed brows are what greet Derek when he pulls open the door along with the side lean of her body as she completely ignores another one of his pet names for his actual pet that can barely be made out in the darkness.]
You didn't tell me you had a dog!
[She sounds wholly offended at these turn of events. If she knew, she would have brought him treats! Some squeaky toys! Prepared her hands for an extended belly rub! What kind of owner is Derek to deny his dog some loving from a stranger?]
[Inara detests, detests sending texts but she can't stand to actually hear his voice or see his face right now. It's too soon but she has business needs.]
I apologize for bothering you, but you're the only one I know who actually owns tools. I have some shelves that need fixed and I was hoping to borrow some of your tools to do just that.
[ He laid naked in bed, having not gotten up yet for the day. The text didn't wake him but did get his attention from staring out at the ocean view. He glanced at his buzzing phone. Derek reached for the device and had to take a double look at the screen. Really? It'd been a few days since he walked out of her life. He had told her to contact him if she needed him but hadn't expected to actually hear from her. And here she used a text to make contact.
Inara might not have wanted him to hate her but it seemed that she hated him. ]
Lots of tools can be used to fix a shelf, depending on what it is that needs fixing. Take a picture of what's wrong and send it to me. I'll pass by and get it done when you're busy elsewhere.
[She really wouldn't have contacted him had she known of anyone else with tools but alas... She wished she had someone else she could ask but she really wanted to get the shop she'd bought at least to a point where she could start the painting and all the cosmetic things that needed to be done.]
I don't require you to fix it for me, I'm more than able to do that on my own. I just need to borrow some of your tools, like your hammer, a level, perhaps some nails. I can pay you for the use of them if that's an issue.
Woman of your caliber? We'd be stupid to say no. There's not a set team or anything. We have some collaborate with our DJ, they have dances ready for certain songs.
Derek, I was hoping that we could have dinner together tonight. Are you available tonight?
[Since she'd come back, things hadn't seemed... Quite right and well, she missed him. They always seemed to be missing each other with her either off at the hospital or Derek off working with Gus or at the station. There just didn't seem to be enough hours in the day anymore.]
[ It took a second for him to look at his device. He hadn't expected Lee to contact him but wasn't exactly surprised. They didn't let their collars get tight but hadn't spent much time together since she returned. First, it'd been the truth that he had let his responsibilities falter in the search for her. However, there wasn't a lot of work left in the lurch. Gus was running what they had in the construction business (it was only something Derek helped with when the younger man asked), the gym was mostly Sonya's and there wasn't a whole lot in the way of police work other than a few idiots fighting.
His almost wife was a smart woman. She knew there was still some distance between them since her return. Derek texted back. ]
Sure. At the station or hospital?
[ It was almost as if they didn't share a home together, the way he spoke. He was still giving the pretense that work beckoned him as it did her. Maybe Lee had been doing the same. Derek didn't really know how busy the hospital was. He knew Meredith had disappeared, none of her things remaining which was a sign she was gone for good. The same happened with the shit Lee once slept with. Between the two of them, she had dealt with more losses. He watched his device for her response. ]
